Saturday 3rd October 2009 - End of Season Presentation 2009

Newtownabbey Strikers W.F.C., the top women’s football team in Northern Ireland, held their Annual End of Season Presentation on Saturday 3rd October 2009 at The Corrs Corner Hotel in Newtownabbey.  With players, staff, parents, supporters and football associates alike plus special guests the Deputy Mayor of Newtownabbey and Crusaders FC representatives, the evening was a very enjoyable occasion.

2009 proved to be another packed season full of competitive matches.  After a close fought competition Newtownabbey Strikers beat rivals Glentoran Belfast united to lift the title of Carnegie Premier League Champions for the first time in 3 years.  The club also won the Carrickfergus Ladies International Football Festival Shield competition but just missed out on the prestigious title of Coca Cola Irish FA Women’s Cup Champions after being beaten by rivals Glentoran Belfast United 1-0 in the final.

Strikers Reserves could not add any silverware after their league efforts fell short in the newly established Reserve League.  They were semi-finalists in the Divisional Cup.

As for awards presented on the night the deserved winners were:

1st Team Manager’s Player of the Season – Danielle McDowell
Reserve Team Manager’s Player of the Season – Nicole Connolly
1st Team Player’s Player of the Season –
Angela Platt
Reserve Team Player’s Player of the Season –
Nicole Connolly
1st Team Top Goalscorer –
Terri Harper (17 goals)
2nd Team Top Goalscorer
– Paula McConnell (9 goals)
Recognition Awards – Elaine Roden, Danielle McDowell (for their coaching work with the Strikers Junior squads). Laura Johnston (for her work as secretary and website administrator). Brian Roden, Eddie Armour and Mr Dickinson (for their support this season).

The club would like to thank Manager Stephen Calvert and Coach Jeoff Montgomery for all their drive, dedication and expertise, the family and friends who tirelessly supported the club throughout the season and special thanks to Club kit sponsors The Beautiful Game, NI Physiotherapy (Ross Harris), Junior Club kit sponsors and to their home ground venue at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.

18th July - 1st August 2009 - Carrickfergus International Ladies Football Festival

Carrick Logo

Newtownabbey Strikers return to the Carrickfergus Ladies Football Festival as current Championship Winners.  This year they are looking forward to the chance to compete against newcomers of the competition aiming to repeat their performances and reclaim their tournament winners status.

This year Newtownabbey Strikers are affiliated with the Irish League club Crusaders F.C.  They have worked tirelessly through the winter months to prepare themselves for another competitive season in the NIWFA Premier and Reserve Leagues.  Having just missed out on the top spot in the Premier league in the past few years they are hoping their preparation will take them that last step to regain the title of top Premier League team in Northern Ireland and see them compete in their 4th Women’s UEFA Cup competition.  With plenty of silverware to play for, this season promises to be another competitive battle.
